Midterm Submission

For the title page and the table of contents, I used my Mac, which means it does not have publisher, so I looked online for a Mac publisher and came across LucidPress, which was a free alternative publisher for MacBooks. For my other two pages, I decided to use a template, from an app called "Pages" that comes preinstalled on my computer. I used this template because it is very simple, as the title of the article is "Simply Vegan." I hoped to create a non distracting article, where you can easily see each photo and what each text represents. Each photo was used is a vegan plate, the photo used on the title page stood out to me because it has a variety o f color but also , it does not look like something you would know off the top of your head. The photo used on the table of contents was of vegan coffee and oatmeal, and it was the perfect picture because there is a focus on the picture of the two items, but there is a plain background which allows me to ...

Photoshoots

For the last three photos I called The Ionie Cafe planning to call them to set up an interview with the owner of the store, but unfortunately they were pretty busy and could not fit any time for my interview. I decided to go to the cafe right after school on a Tuesday around 3:15. I was there for about an hour since the day was a bit gloomy, so I was waiting for the sun to come back up so the food could look more vibrant. The weather did not change much but I took photos inside and outside of the cafe. As for the rest of the photos, were from my camera roll, which of course I had to take advantage of.

Scouting Locations

Since most of my pictures I already had in my phone I did not have many places to do food photoshoots. I then decided to go the Ionie Body & Mind Retreat Organic + Vegan Raw Food Cafe, which was downtown. My options were to either take pictures of the food inside or outside and I felt as if taking the pictures with some plants and tree in the background would make it seem more natural.

Interview

1.) What would you tell others who want to become vegan? - I would say to take it slow and to never rush into it. You don't have to become vegan straight away, its a process especially when you grow up eating meat, eggs, dairy, and more. When I was younger I loved eating any foods with meat such as chicken pot pies, shepherds pie, meat loaf, pork chops, lasagne and casseroles. It was hard at first, but once you get the hang of it, being vegan just becomes apart of your lifestyle. I have been vegan for three years now and I dont regret my change whatsoever. 2.) What do you think peoples biggest misconceptions of vegans? - The biggest misconception is that we are all skinny. Everyone likes to associate healthy eating to being slim and it simply isn't true. 3.) There are many reasons why people become vegan, what's yours? - One of the biggest reason I decided to become vegan was because of this documentary I saw; it consisted of animals being tortured and treated inh...

Flat Plan

Image
In the flat plan I wanted to write a variety of topics about Veganism. I wanted all aspects to be covered such as economical and health benefits. I added in recipes to show what foods to make and how easy it can be, additionally I covered the topic for meat and fast food alternatives for the people who want to make the lifestyle switch, which can allow them to slowly do so, while eating the foods they are used to at the same time..The ads are placed in an every other article order and placed evenly throughout the magazine, so it is not a ad on every single page.

Table of Contents Template

Image
I am listing these articles because I feel as if they main topics pop out. Such as if someone were new and wanted to become a vegan, theres already a starters guide given to them. Then I promote the benefits to encourage others why to become vegan by listing reasons. Additionally, I listed the alternatives for ones who cannot go straight into Veganism and want to slowly make their way there by eating foods they are used to. I wanted to use the same font throughout the table of contents to make everything go together. I loved this font, it seems very minimalistic and I will only be using one picture in the background behind the text.

Cover Design Template

I came up with the title because this magazine is all about food health and food alternatives. I wanted to gear towards plant based food and talk about how we can change our eating for health wellness. The font I chose is all capitalized which I hope will draw attention to the three subtitles on the side, and most importantly the title of the magazine.
